The problem here is not that these people want to marry each other. If they want to enter into any kind of contract that would ordinarily be legal, they should be able to, but they upset the mores of the large religious right. I personally dont care what they do and I am not threatened by them wanting to interact with each other. Then it will be up to the ministers whether to marry them. But what will happen then? Will Gay groups sue Churches that refuse to agree with them? Are Gays looking for Permission or Vindication? I wish they would be quiet and quit distracting America from more important issues. I’m starting to think that the whole homesexual issue is just a cry for attention.

If you’re talking about gay rights (DADT, marriage equality, etc). I have to respectfully disagree. Fighting for human rights is not a distraction. You can’t blame gays for trying to finally get some fair treatment, since they have a rare opportunity with a Democratic president & congressional majority. You have to actively fight for civil rights, the establishment never just hands them over. Even MLK got pressured by the Kennedy’s to quit pressuring them for civil rights, but they eventually realized their mistake.

I guess I just wish they would get it over with. I dont want to deprive anyone from the rights to live a fair and equal life. I guess that I just dont have an axe to grind on this issue and all the noise is distracting.

I agree it’s ridiculous it’s taking so long. I wish we could sort it out in a day and move on.

It irritates me that the reactionaries hold up group marriage as an example of the negative consequenses of gay marriage. I think group marriage makes more sense than serial monogamy. I support gay marriage, but I’d rather see more options if possible. Let the church have their institution, and if you want marriage, go to one of the nicer churches. The government should issue civil unions for any configuration among consenting adults.

What I hear from the right is that government has to police marriage to protect the integrity of family. They believe that marriage is really all about CHILDREN. But if that’s true, then why can’t government just recognize joint-custody/parenthood and leave it at that ??(No need for “civil unions” at that point.) Gov’t has no business “marrying people”, but it can still protect the integrity of family (an investment in the country’s future) by rewarding people who raise children (and that should include gays – anyone with financial and stability and good moral judgement should have the right to adopt and raise children.)

White House 2 is a multi-partisan network of 10550 citizens imagining how the White House might work if it was run completely democratically by thousands of people over the internet. It's free and all U.S. citizens can join.

We're setting priorities, collaborating on policy, and creating a massive database of 2867 talking points covering all sides of every important issue facing our country. Watch the video intro.

Getting involved is easy and fun. Just join and start setting your priorities, like a todo list. The more people who endorse a priority, the higher it rises in the charts. The more people who join the network, the more clout we will have with the President and the media.
